Anil R. Shah FACS is patient centric, meaning his patients are paramount to everything that he does. Understanding, embracing, and honoring a patient’s cultural and ethnic identity is synonymous with how the New York-based surgeon approaches facial plastics.

With a thriving practice based in midtown Manhattan, Dr. Shah’s patient list is as multicultural as the city itself. However, it is Dr. Shah’s unique perspective that truly sets the double board certified plastic surgeon apart from others in a city with so many options.

Dr. Shah does not believe in one size fits all surgical plans. He firmly believes each patient has a unique facial structure and facial symmetry that needs to be properly assessed and honored when developing a surgical plan. Specifically with patients who have a rich cultural and ethnic identity, Dr. Shah’s approach is always one of respect and reverence.

It is important that a surgeon understands the nuances and subtle differences in the nose of a Black patient vs. a caucasian patient. Physically, the noses of Black patients are structurally different from noses of people of caucasian descent and oftentimes Black patients will need more structural support. Many other surgeons do not note the importance of support and frequently opt for a nose implant, which Dr. Shah strongly advises against. Comparatively, Dr. Shah uses only natural cartilage found in the patient’s own body. Using a patient’s own cartilage significantly reduces the chance of infection and simply looks much more natural. Dr. Shah is one of the few doctors that believes solely in this natural harvesting, truly making him a trailblazer in the world of facial plastics.

Dr. Shah has taken years to study and understand these subtle yet important differences among different ethnicities and rhinoplasties. Dr. Shah understands the deep significance of cultural identity and carefully creates a personalized surgical plan that honors it—while still giving the patient the nose of their dreams.

Having performed over 7 thousand rhinoplasties in his career, Dr. Shah is an ENT who is dedicated to creating works of art that reflect who the patient is – their identity, their journey, who they are, and who they dream to be.
